The Skylla-i ensures optimal charging for lead-acid and Lithium-ion (LiFePO4) batteries, offering precision, flexibility, and durability in even the harshest environments.

Key Features of the Victron Skylla-i Charger

Optimised Charging for Lead-Acid Batteries

The Skylla-i features variable absorption time, automatically adjusting to the battery’s discharge level to prevent overcharging. After shallow discharges, absorption time is minimised, while deeper discharges trigger an extended absorption phase to ensure full recharge.

BatterySafe Mode

To prevent excessive gassing during rapid charging, the Skylla-i limits the voltage increase once the gassing point is reached. This ensures safe and efficient battery charging without the risk of damage.

Storage Mode for Reduced Maintenance

When the battery is not in use, the Skylla-i reduces float voltage to minimise gassing and corrosion. Once a week, it refreshes the battery by raising the voltage to the absorption level, preventing electrolyte stratification and sulphation—key causes of early battery failure.

Two Models to Suit Your Needs

  • Skylla-i (1+1): Features two isolated outputs, with one output limited to approximately 4A for topping up a starter battery.
  • Skylla-i (3): Features three full current outputs for charging three separate battery banks simultaneously.

Rugged and Reliable Design

The Skylla-i is built to withstand harsh environments, with an aluminium epoxy-coated casing, stainless steel fixings, and acrylic-coated circuit boards for maximum corrosion resistance. Temperature sensors ensure reliable operation, automatically reducing output current under extreme conditions to protect components.

Flexible Configuration

With a CAN bus (NMEA 2000) interface, rotary switch, DIP switches, and potentiometers, the charge algorithm can be fully customised to match specific battery requirements and usage conditions. Multiple chargers can also be synchronised via the CAN bus interface for parallel operation.

Li-Ion (LiFePO4) Ready

The Skylla-i supports simple on/off control via a relay or open collector optocoupler output from a Lithium-ion BMS. Complete control of voltage and current is achievable through the galvanically isolated CAN bus port.

  • Battery Voltage Sense: Compensates for voltage loss due to cable resistance, ensuring the battery always receives the correct charge voltage.

  • Use as a Power Supply: Stabilised output voltage makes the Skylla-i ideal for use as a power supply when batteries or buffer capacitors are not available.
