Adaptive 4-Stage Charging Algorithm

The Phoenix Smart Charger features a microprocessor-controlled charging system with four distinct stages: bulk, absorption, float, and storage. This adaptive system automatically adjusts the charging process based on the battery's condition, ensuring safe and efficient charging while minimising wear and tear.

Variable Absorption Time

To prevent overcharging, the charger shortens absorption time for shallow discharges, such as when a yacht is connected to shore power. For deeper discharges, the absorption time increases to ensure the battery is fully recharged, enhancing reliability and performance.

BatterySafe Mode

When high charge currents and voltages are needed for rapid charging, the BatterySafe mode prevents excessive gassing by limiting the voltage increase after the gassing point is reached. This protects the battery from damage and ensures a safe charging process.

Storage Mode for Longevity

The charger switches to storage mode after 24 hours of inactivity, reducing float voltage to minimise gassing and corrosion. Once a week, it raises the voltage to the absorption level to equalise the battery, preventing stratification and sulphation—common causes of early battery failure.

Temperature Compensation for Battery Protection

The included battery temperature sensor automatically adjusts the charge voltage to account for temperature changes, ensuring optimal charging conditions, especially for sealed batteries or when temperature fluctuations occur.

Voltage Sense and Universal Input

The Phoenix Smart Charger compensates for voltage losses due to cable resistance, ensuring the battery always receives the correct voltage. It accepts a universal 90-265V AC input and is also suitable for DC supply (90-400V DC), making it highly versatile for various energy setups.

Computer Interface and Advanced Configuration

The charger includes an RS-485 data port for advanced configuration via the free VEConfigure software. Using the MK2-USB accessory, you can customise all parameters to match your specific requirements.
